Client Name:

Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA)

Project Location:

Tema Port, Ghana

Project Status:

Completed

Project Description

GPHA contracted Amandi to construct a new jetty at Quay 12, Port of Tema, which was completed in the first half of 2016. The 450m x 50m jetty allows four vessels to dock, offload and load materials simultaneously. Previously, Quay 12 could only serve one vessel at a time, but by adding 900m of docking area, capacity of the entire docking area at Tema Port was almost doubled.

Amandi overcame challenges relating to soil strength, safety distances and disruption to port activities. Test drills were used for every pile sunk and the jetty was constructed at a safe angle, ensuring safe accessibility to vessels in the Tema shipyard. In addition, the work site was erected behind a fenced-off area to minimize interruptions to dockyard trading. Following completion, vessels can dock securely inside the port without paying demurrage fees, effectively reducing the price of imported goods.

The project was financed through a collaboration between Amandi and Rand Merchant Bank.
